eTA Canada for Singaporean Citizens

If you are a holder of a Singaporean passport and planning to travel to Canada in the near future you will be required to apply for eTA Canada. eTA Singapore the Electronic Travel authorization is issued to allow foreign citizens to enter Canada by air.

Citizens from Singapore can easily apply for their eTA online if they wish to reside in Canada for a short amount of time that does not extend 90 days, although some visitors may stay in Canada for up to 6 months. Please note that you may apply for your eTA if you plan on entering Canada for one of the following reasons: business, tourism, transit or medical purposes. In order to apply for an eTA you must hold a valid Singaporean passport, you must be 18 years of age or older and travel to Canada by air.

Do Singaporeans need VISA to Canada?

Singaporean citizens who wish to visit Canada for more than 90 days or the reason for traveling is different than the reasons provided above will need to apply for a Visa. If you have applied for an eTA you do not need to apply for a Visa, the same applies for the Visa, if you have applied for one you do not need to apply for an eTA. The Visa application process will take you more time than applying for an eTA as well as you may need to provide photos, work permits, fingerprints or study permits. The process of applying for a Visa to Canada require providing information to obtain the travel document as well as answering some questions upon your arrival to the security officers at the airport.

If you have Singaporean-Canadian dual nationality you won’t be able to apply for an eTA and you’ll need to present a valid Canadian passport to board your flight to Canada.

eTA Canada requirements for Australian Citizens

Once you have obtained all the information and confirmed that you qualify for an eTA Canada here are the requirements to obtain your travel authorization.

  • Singaporean Citizens must hold a valid passport which must be valid for the time of your stay and at least six months in the future after entering Canada.
  • You must enter Canada only by air, if you plan on traveling to Canada by land or sea you cannot obtain an eTA and you will need to provide acceptable travel documents.
  • Singaporean passport holders must be 18 or older to apply for their own eTA, if the traveler is younger than 18, a parent or guardian must apply on behalf of the child.
  • The reason of traveling must be one of the following – business, tourism, transit or medical purposes, if the reason of entering Canada is different please see the provided information for Visa Canada above.

Once you have the necessary information as well as documents to apply for an eTA, you will need to fill out an eTA online application which must be done at least 72 hours before departing. When the application has been completed and the payment has been confirmed you will be notified via email. Normally your eTA will be issued in 24-48 hours if no further information is required.

Where Can I Get the eTA Canada for Singaporean citizens?

Obtaining an eTA for Singaporean citizens online is pretty straight forward if you have all the necessary information and documentation the process of completing your application will only take you 10 minutes. Once you have filled out the application form, submitted the payment and received the approved eTA in your inbox you will be able to travel to Canada for short 90 days trips per entry and the eTA will be valid for a total of 5 years since the issue date or until the date when your passport expired. If your passport has expired you will need to apply for another eTA, the same applied for eTA itself, if your travel authorization has expired you may apply for a new one.

If the reason of your travelling is transit to another country you still need to apply for an eTA to pass through Canada, when applying you must simply pick the reason of traveling–transit.

You may not need to apply for eTA of hold a valid visa for Canada if you travel to or from the United States. If your country is a part of Transit without Visa Program (TWOV) and the China Transit Program (CTP) you may be able to transit through Canada without obtaining the Visa Canada or eTA Canada.

Please, note that corrections cannot be made on your eTA once it has been approved, you will need to apply again. You will need to apply again if you have been issued a new passport or your old passport has expired since the approval of your eTA.
